All That That Implies

By Michael Penn

Things to note:

  • You could decipher this one in any number of keys... I found that using these chords in this key (Capo on 5th fret) worked best for me.
  • Wherever you see a D+, just play a normal D chord (see below) followed by a Dsus, which requires you to only use your pinky to play the G on the high E string:
D and Dsus Chords D+ figure
  • Wherever you see notation for "C-b", all you have to do there is pull off the C that your index finger is playing on the 1st fret of the B string. (If you prefer a pull-off... you could just strum it, too.) Make sure it happens on the last beat of the measure (C-b falls on the "4-and" of the measure.)

Intro

| G D+ | C D+ |

G D+ C
Filibust and hesitate

G D C
You say I procrastinate

    G D+ C
and that my heartbeat's second rate

   G D C C-b
to one you'll recognize

  G D+ C
I know that you are drawn to it

   G Bm C
so all I am is counterfeit

   Em D C
It pulls you so you must submit

     Em A C-b
like ant to honeydew

| G D+ | C D+ |

| G D+ | C D+ |

     G D+ C
What I once took as remedies

     G D C
were only chalk hypotheses and

 G D+ C
'tis the season for a breeze

   G D C-b
to blow them all away

   G D+ C
To add insult to injury

    G Bm C
the sum you get means I agree

   Em D C
so you can call that empathy

         Em A C
and find someone else to blame

    Cm G
You say it's truth and nothing but

Am D (c b a g f# e d)
baby, I sympathize

Chorus

    G D Am C G
But all that that implies are lies

   D Cadd9
surprise, surprise

G D Am C G
All that that implies are lies

   D Cadd9
surprise, surprise

         G
They're lies

   D
Surprise,

 G D
Take this heart

    C
and claim a stake

G D
Shove it through

   C
so I can't wake

    Em D
The cock will crow,

    C Am
the day will break

    Em A C
but I won't be around

    Cm G
And it may be the kindest cut

Am D
word comes in edgewise

Chorus

G D Am C G
All that that implies are lies

   D Cadd9
surprise, surprise

surprise, surprise

        G D
They're lies, surprise,
