Half Harvest

By Michael Penn, ©1989
Transcribed here by me, Tom (1997)

Notes:

  • Numbers in front of letters = how many beats that note receives
  • |X--|--X| = a tie
  • Wherever there are two chords together, by default- they are half notes and each get 2 beats
  • This song relies on lead guitar/bass guitar combos a lot, so I have added as many of them I could that are possible to play on your own... combos that seem too hard to play on your own are meant for those HAVING A BAND TO WORK WITH! Or at least a multi-track recorder...
  • The F7's sound best (to me at least) when played as bar chords on the first fret

Time Signature: 4-4
Tempo: Moderato

Here are some chords that might come in handy:
C/BbF/C

  | C7 | F7 | I don't care that you won't quit this notion
  | C7 | F7 | of burying the carnival
  |C C/Bb| Am| but what the hell is in your potion
  | G--|--G | that's made you so dull?
  | C7 | F7 | So I cannot make a blind from sawdust
  | C7 | F7 | much less a cool millennium, but I'd
  |C C/Bb| Am| much rather feel the heat of August
  | G | F/C | than be sheltered and numb

  | C7 | F7 | This paradise is slowly crumbling
  | C7 | F7 | from here to Wilshire Boulevard
  |C C/Bb| Am| but the rubble over which you are stumbling
  | G--|--G | just isn't that hard
  | C7 | F7 | What did you do with all that grace, now?
  |C7 | F7 | what did you do with all my wine?
  |C C/Bb| Am| what makes you think that just 'cause you dress bright
  | G | F/C | it means that you shine?

  | C C7/E | So move out of your
  | F Fm | bed of roses, now
  | C C7/E| I'm putting in a
  |F/F8va F/Bb| bed of nails
  | F | 'cause when this whole
  | D G | production closes
  | Bb| F| this innocence fails
	        (and weren't we supposed to)

  | C | C | G | F7 | SHINE...like half harvest never shone
  | C | 1F 1C 2G | F | F7 | SHINE...like half harvest never known.
